Which Kitchen Sink Should I Buy?
One of the most crucial design choices you will make for your kitchen is the sink. The kitchen sink is the heart of any kitchen, so it is important to select one that reflects your style and suits your way of life.
For the minimalist or for those limited for space, our small kitchen sinks and wall mounted sinks are perfect for maximising versatility and functionality, while minimising space used. If you’d prefer a sleeker modern look then we’d recommend a semi inset sink or semi recessed sink. These are best paired with a pull-out kitchen tap or wall mounted kitchen tap to make the most out of your bench space.
For the DIY-er we’d recommend an inset sink or an above counter sink. These types of sinks are easy to install and are suitable for any bench type, including laminate. Best complemented by a single hole mixer tap to keep renovation costs low.
For those that simply refuse to compromise on quality or style we have a range of large and luxurious single bowl, double bowl and undermount sinks. Match with a classic bridging tap for a timeless Hamptons/Farmhouse aesthetic, and pair with a water filter tap for added luxury.
For the adventurous envisioning a bold design or wanting to make a statement we’d recommend a gold sink or a gunmetal sink. Be sure to browse our range of gold and gunmetal taps to find the perfect match. Alternatively, pair one of our black or white sinks with a coloured waste fitting to truly personalise your kitchen.
Finally, no kitchen sink is complete without accessories. Sink mats are essential to preventing silvering in ceramic kitchen sinks, whilst also protecting any delicate glassware or dinnerware. In-bowl drainers and sink grids allow you to air dry pots and dishes without sacrificing bench space.
What Kitchen Sink Material Is Best?

Ceramic Sinks
There are different types of ceramic, but the two main types of ceramic which sinks are generally made from are either vitreous china or fireclay.
Both are made in the same manner by mixing clay, water, and other materials together, then pressing the mixture into a mould. The mould is then fired in a kiln to set the clay, resulting in a hard ceramic sink. Both are highly durable and are resistant to chips, cracks, and scratches. Both types are also glazed so are non-porous, making them stain resistant and very hygienic.
The main difference is that fireclay sinks are fired at a much higher temperature, making them much stronger and more durable than vitreous china. Unlike vitreous china, fireclay sinks can cope with extreme temperatures without cracking, making them ideal for use in the kitchen. Therefore, you will find most ceramic kitchen sinks in Australia are made from solid fireclay, while bathroom sinks and laundry sinks are made from vitreous china.
Keep in mind that ceramic sinks are made from natural materials, meaning every sink is unique and can vary from the manufacturer’s specifications. Always allow for tolerance (this will vary from brand to brand) and never make any cuts to cabinetry or benchtops until your sink is on site.

Porcelain Kitchen Sinks
Porcelain is another popular material used to create kitchen sinks. It’s durable and easy to clean, while also giving a sleek, timeless appearance.
Granite Sinks
Granite kitchen sinks are manufactured from a specially engineered stone which consists of 80% natural quartz sand (the strongest component in granite). The other 20% is made from resin, usually acrylic resin. The components are mixed, moulded into sink form, and then fired at very high temperatures. The resulting product is extremely durable and highly resistant to breaking or cracking.
One of the main advantages of a granite sink is that they are available in a wide range of colours, styles, and sizes, offering tonnes of variety and flexibility. The colour is also uniform throughout the sink, and is guaranteed not to fade.
Finally, granite sinks are anti-bacterial due to the non-porous surface. This means they are extremely hygienic and easy to clean.
Stainless Steel Sinks
Stainless steel is graded based on several factors including gauge (the thickness of the steel) and the percentage of iron in the material. The high amounts of chrome and nickel in 304 grade stainless steel gives it excellent corrosion resistant properties, meaning it is the best grade steel for kitchen sinks.
Stainless steel sinks are food safe, heat resistant, and will not dent, crack, or break. They are available in many shapes and sizes offering plenty of design flexibility. Best of all, stainless steel sinks generally tend to be much more affordable and easier to install and maintain than their ceramic or granite counterparts.
